AISI 304 (1.4301) is a widely used austenitic chromium nickel stainless steel. It has excellent tensile properties and excellent formability, while also possessing high corrosion resistance. Typical uses of 304 stainless steel include kitchen equipment such as sinks, frying pan, pipes, etc. Type 304, sometimes also known as 18/8, is named after its typical 18% chromium and 8% nickel composition. Other elements in the alloy include nickel, manganese, silicon, nitrogen, carbon, phosphorus, and sulfur.
